How to choose
Waterproof ratings
Waterproofing is measured in millimetres. 10,000 mm (10K) is fine for most holidays in dry Alpine snow; 15,000–20,000 mm or more suits wet snow and long days in bad weather. Taped seams keep water out at the stitching. Where the shop states a rating, we show it.
Insulated or shell
Insulated jackets are warm on their own and suit cold resorts and skiers who feel the cold. A shell with layers underneath is more flexible across the season and suits active skiers.
Features worth having
A powder skirt, a helmet-compatible hood, a lift-pass pocket on the sleeve and underarm vents. For trousers, boot gaiters, a reinforced hem and thigh vents; bib trousers keep snow out on falls.
Fit over layers
Try them on over a base and mid layer. You should be able to reach and crouch freely; sleeves should cover your wrists with arms outstretched.
Picks at every price
From the cheapest, middle and most expensive third of what’s in stock, we picked the ones with the most of the features above.

Frequently asked questions
What waterproof rating do I need for skiing?
10,000 mm is enough for most holidays in cold, dry snow. Choose 15,000–20,000 mm or more for wet climates, spring snow or a lot of time in the weather.
Can I rent ski clothing?
In some resorts and UK shops, yes. For a first trip it can save money; if you ski every year, your own jacket and trousers fit better and cost less over time.
