Snowboard Trip Planning 2026/27: Flights, Rental, Lessons & Parks

The short answer

A snowboard trip is planned like a ski trip, with three differences: how your airline treats a board bag, which rental and lesson bookings you need, and where the terrain parks are. The lift pass is the same one skiers buy.

Renting a board

Check the board, bindings and boots individually, and confirm the stance setup before you leave the shop. Make sure the rental category includes the equipment you need: a “ski package” price is not a snowboard price. Collect the day before your first lesson if the shop allows it.

Lessons in a mixed ski–snowboard group

Snowboard and ski lessons often meet in different places, even in the same resort. If your group mixes skiers and snowboarders, plan two first mornings: who collects which equipment, where each lesson starts, and where you meet for lunch.

Lift passes

Snowboarders use the same alpine lift pass as skiers. Choose it by the area you plan to ride; a beginner on the nursery slopes may not need the widest pass.

Terrain parks

Resorts list their snowparks on their official sites. In Verbier, for example, the tourist office identifies La Chaux as the snowpark location. Parks and features open with the snow, so check the daily information before you plan a park day.

Riding in autumn

Glacier areas in Austria, Italy and Switzerland open from October, and are where many riders start the season.

Frequently asked questions

Do snowboarders need a different lift pass?

No. Snowboarders buy the same alpine lift pass as skiers. Choose it by the area you will ride, not by discipline.

Can I take my snowboard on a plane?

Yes. SWISS includes it on eligible fares, easyJet charges for it as small sports equipment (20 kg maximum), and Aer Lingus charges a fee in Europe with a 23 kg limit.

What should I check when renting a snowboard?

Check the board, bindings and boots separately, confirm your stance is set up, and make sure the rental category includes everything you need.
