The rail option, step by step

The official access guide describes Léman Express services to Saint-Gervais-les-Bains–Le Fayet, connecting with the Mont-Blanc Express through the Chamonix valley. It is a connection, not a direct airport train: check an end-to-end itinerary for your date and the station closest to your lodging before relying on it with ski bags.

Can you manage without a car in Chamonix?

The valley has buses and the Mont-Blanc Express, so check those before hiring a car. Test a sample day from your accommodation to the lifts you plan to use and back, including evenings, against the current valley timetable.

Tips for this journey

  • Give your flight number and the number of ski or snowboard bags when you book. Passenger seats and luggage space are not the same thing.
  • Saturday is changeover day in most Alpine resorts, so roads and airports are at their busiest. A midweek or Sunday arrival is usually quicker.
  • Use your full accommodation address. Two chalets "in Chamonix" can be far apart, and some are only reachable on foot or by a local shuttle.
