What to know
Self-catering is where the savings are
Almost all of the cheapest weeks are apartments without meals. Supermarket breakfasts and dinners in the apartment cost far less than half board, and you eat on the mountain at lunchtime either way.
Check what the price assumes
A per-person price for an apartment assumes it is full. Two people in a four-person apartment pay more each, so compare the total for your group on the booking page.
Avoid school holidays
The cheapest dates are early December, January after the first week, and late March. Christmas, New Year, February half term and Easter cost the most.
Big resorts can be the cheap ones
Large French purpose-built resorts sell apartment-and-pass packages cheaply, so you often get more skiing for less money than in a small village.
Close to home for many
German resorts in the Bavarian Alps, Black Forest and Harz suit short breaks and families, with smaller areas and lower prices than the big Alpine names.
