What to know
Stars mean different things
Austria and Italy have many “superior” 4-star hotels (4S, shown as 4.5) with spas that rival 5-star hotels elsewhere.
Look at what’s included
Gourmet half board, a ski room with boot warmers, and a ski shuttle are common in this class. Compare them, not just the room.
Apartments with the pass are the bargain
French purpose-built resorts (Les Deux Alpes, La Plagne, Val Thorens, Les Menuires) sell self-catering apartments with the lift pass for less than a hotel alone in many other countries.
